Downtown Rideau Open for Business During Construction

Businesses in Downtown Rideau will remain open as usual during LRT construction.

Rideau-closure-Map-engAs part of the O-Train Confederation Line light rail transit (LRT) project, Rideau Street, between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street, will be restricted to general traffic beginning August 28, 2015 until construction of the future Rideau LRT station is completed in 2018. Once completed, Rideau Station will feature three entrances; an east entrance coordinated within the future Scotia Bank building on the northeast corner of Rideau and William streets, a west entrance integrated into the Rideau Centre at the corner of Colonel by Drive and Rideau Street, and a mid entrance with access via the Rideau Centre elevator.
General Traffic Restricted on Rideau Street between Sussex and Dalhousie

WHY: Rideau Street between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction. General traffic will be restricted to ensure reliable transit service during the O-Train Confederation Line construction of Rideau Station along Rideau Street.

WHAT: Rideau Street, between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street, will be restricted to general traffic. Exempt vehicles include OC Transpo buses, STO buses, taxis, and local delivery vehicles. Rideau Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout construction. Rideau Station construction will occur within the construction staging areas. Construction hoarding and signage will be in place indicating the parameters of the area. Construction activities scheduled during this period include the construction of the future Rideau Station, the station entrances and vent shafts.

WHEN: The impacts are scheduled to begin Friday, August 28, 2015 and will remain in place until 2018.
Rideau Street Open for Business

Businesses in Downtown Rideau will remain open as usual during LRT construction.

Pedestrian and Cycling Access
Pedestrian access will be maintained with the exception of the south sidewalk between Sussex Drive and the signalized pedestrian crossing at the Rideau Centre entrance/exit. Rideau Street will be restricted to cyclists during construction. Cyclists are encouraged to use alternate routes or walk their bikes.

Traffic Management
Motorists travelling eastbound on Rideau Street will be detoured at Colonel By Drive to Daly Avenue and Besserer Street (via Nicholas Street) and the north on Dalhousie Street to Rideau Street. Motorists travelling westbound will be detoured at Dalhousie Street to Waller Street (via Besserer Street) and then to McKenzie King Bridge and north on Elgin Street to Rideau Street. Detour signage will be in place to direct motorists.

The taxi stand on the north side of Rideau Street will be moved to George Street.
