| Downtown Rideau Holiday Lights |

This years Downtown Rideau Holiday lighting display is better than ever. With 20,000 white bulbs, our lighting numbers have doubled in comparison to last year. White string lights can be found in 62 trees throughout Downtown Rideau including trees along Rideau Street, on the North and South Sides of the Underpass, William Mall and outside of Arts Court. A 12 foot Christmas tree at the Underpass a filled with multi lights ads some colour to the mix, with smaller evergreens at William mall to compliment.
This beautiful lighting is just one element of the festive Downtown Rideau Holiday décor, which also includes: evergreen arrangements in flower pots on lampposts, holiday music beckoning from outdoor speakers, window-wrap wreaths on doorways and reproduction original works of art on streetlight banners and on the Wall at The Underpass.

| Have a Heart Panhandling Awareness Program |

Have a Heart, Give Smart / Kindness Meters
Have a Heart - Give Smart” is a public outreach campaign created by the Downtown Ottawa Coalition for a Safe Community (DOCSC) to educate downtown Ottawa residents, employees and visitors about the issue of panhandling. While panhandling is often associated with homelessness, most panhandlers are not homeless. In many cases, giving money to panhandlers supports drug and alcohol addiction. www.givesmartottawa.ca
As part of the campaign, 10 Kindness Meters have been installed throughout Downtown Rideau and The ByWard Market. The money collected in these meters is given to community groups dedicated to providing services and resources for the homeless.
