The mining and construction of the O-Train Confederation Line downtown tunnel is well underway. Tunnel mining is expected to be completed in late spring 2016 and more than 70% of the Rideau station cavern has already been excavated.
Over the coming months, work will ramp up at the surface level on Rideau Street, as construction of the Rideau Station entrances progresses. A notice is attached outlining the work that will begin in late February. In short, the following works are anticipated to start:
· At the west entrance at Rideau Street and Colonel By Drive, excavation, reinforcements, line and rock drilling will begin.
· Preliminary shoring for the west vent shaft (West TVS) on the north side of Rideau Street at Sussex Drive is anticipated to occur as early as end of February. Noise levels are expected to be moderate to high during these works. Should overnight work be required, businesses/residents in the work zone will receive notification.
· Additionally, investigative borehole work is also expected to occur in the area during the next months on Wellington Street. To minimize any potential impacts, the work, when required, is expected to occur overnight.
