Art has many mediums; translating that onto skin happens best when the talented tattoo artists of INKsession are given the trust and freedom to do so. Marc Clairoux has been tattooing in Ottawa for about 25 years, and business partner Alden McLellan got started in 2002 in Indiana working at a friend’s shop. They have since opened INKsession – a destination shop in Ottawa where visitors want to stop in, even if only to come look and say hi!

“We love being down here on Rideau – the hustle and bustle, the different types of people, and the energy!” says McLellan.

The shop’s specialty is tattoos and piercings. They also offer jewelry and aftercare and an everyday special on standard piercings, 2 for $80 (on the same person).

The ideal client for INKsession is someone who can bring cool ideas to the table and build on it with added creative input as the professionals guide them through the process. “What inspires me is seeing the client truly happy when the tattoo is finished. There is a noticeable emotion on their face when you’ve exceeded their expectations. Knowing that I did that is the greatest feeling.” says McLellan. Each recognizing their individual strengths, they always direct clients to the artist most fitting for the tattoo as customer satisfaction is vital to their reputation.

INKsession does a lot of advertising with a relatively new, local radio station Rebel 101.7 and together, promote rock bands and rock music in Ottawa. They sponsor shows, as well as hold private invite-only shows, in their tattoo shop. “We would like to do more of that in the future, making us not only a Tattoo shop, but also tied into the entertainment corner of Ottawa, and really making every visit here more than just coming for a service, but a full out experience.”
