The best part of a classic brasserie is the conversation. Yes the food is fantastic, the drinks are outstanding, and the oyster bar can’t be beat, but it’s the conversations that emerge in the traditional brasserie atmosphere that set it apart.

Metropolitain Brasserie is perfectly content to embrace its true nature, that of a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere combined with delicious food, spirited conversation – and the city’s largest oyster bar! Offerings include classic French cuisine like Coquille St. Jacques and Bouillabaisse, as well as Canadian standards, all with their own twist.
It’s no surprise that the traditional brasserie dish Moules & Frites (or Mussels & Fries) is one of their most popular menu items, followed closely by shrimp and oysters, which along with wine and select other options, are specially priced on Hill Hour every day 5-7pm and 10pm-close.
The team at Metropolitain are grateful to be in a neighbourhood that offers such a great mix of customers – tourists, shoppers, public servants, students, professionals – and they ensure their menu has something for just about everyone. They’re definitely doing it right, as many guests have been coming since they first opened and have affectionately nicknamed it ‘The Cafeteria’. Many family traditions have developed here, such as pre-theatre dinners, anniversaries, birthday celebrations or weekly Sunday brunches.
Managing Partner Sarah Chown, who has been with Metropolitain since the beginning back in 2005, found it hard to share a ‘Best Day’ because there have been so many unique special ones, but she did have this to offer. ”Some of my favourites though are our annual Federal Budget and Housewarming parties where the restaurant turns into a political melting-pot. Every wedding we host is always special too, add to that Canada Day and the La Machine week in 2017, how could you pick just one that’s the ultimate best!?”
Next spring will see exciting updates to the lounge section of the already beautiful patio, along with some changes to the Paris Room. In the meantime, stop by and enjoy the fantastic food, drinks and cozy atmosphere of this corner of Paris right here in Downtown Rideau.
