O.M.G…have you heard of O.M.B? OhMyBurger is new to the district Downtown Rideau offering food experiences; owned and operated by a Chefs team! This implies they can cook authentic world cuisine in-house that enables a diverse guest-base. These specialty burgers are all fresh, juicy and inventive, don’t contain crumbs or fillers for the volume, and are served in the purest form.
This time of COVID-19 has certainly posed its challenges. “The best strategy for us, which has also been the most difficult so far, is opening a new restaurant during the pandemic lockdowns. In times when most businesses are meeting with an end, and people facing unemployment, we began generating employment for a lot of people.” says partner Shubham Garg. The local community has also been very supportive, and social media marketing, promotions, delivery sales have given a helping hand too.
All three of owners have a collective experience of over 40 years in the global hospitality industry. They started with their business in late 2019.
John Jahshan’s father had a restaurant where he spent his childhood and grew up in the kitchens learning and training. He then moved on to different restaurants and hotels around the globe, including the middle east, americas, and spending recent years in Canada before taking on ownership of a new restaurant.
Izzy Okolie graduated in the field of Culinary, hails from the restaurant industry, and has worked in multiple kitchens moving up the hierarchy throughout his journey until now.
Shubham has had a catering business in India since the age of 13, moved to Canada to study culinary at Le Cordon Bleu in 2019, working part time in various restaurants to make a living. “While we all met at a common workplace working at different positions, our thoughts and ideas related to each other and we have a strong bond of understanding that led us to team up for this beautiful venture.” says Subham.
There have been many ‘best days’ and experiences in the business in such a short time. “If we had to point out a single one, we’d say it was the day we distributed over a hundred free meal boxes to everyone who came in along with giving away over a hundred free meal boxes at the Laurier Manor across our restaurant at Montreal Road. This day was our way of showing support to the community, the health and frontline workers and all those who have been affected by the pandemic.”
Downtown Rideau is the second location in the city. “Downtown Rideau simply gives us joy in being at business. This place brings in hundreds of people belonging to different backgrounds overall, but the one thing that remains constant is the happiness on their faces. Happy guests keep inspiring us to keep going – with more effort.”
Feature specials by the week and the month will also be introduced – highlighting their most demanded burger. For the specialty introductions by the week and month, Butter chicken burger has been an audience demand so far. We will keep this tradition moving forward and invite audiences to put in their votes for their desired burger ahead of time(both in stores and on social media). Our team of Chefs will then pick the most popular demand, curating a burger in the typical OMB style, and this is how our feature burger programs will work.
“We also run a meal box program which is feasible for daily office goers or students who can have a combo meal at an affordable price that includes a burger, side and drink.” says Shubham.
The very ambitious entrepreneurs will soon launch meal box plans for daily commuters that will allow them a new burger every day of the week with a side and drink of their choice. “It is going to be an affordable fare for the masses. Apart from that, we are working towards having more restaurants open as we start inviting franchisees.”
