There are many reasons why Downtown Rideau is Ottawa’s Arts, Fashion and Theatre District and Ottawa Dance Directive (ODD) is one shining example!
ODD is a professional contemporary dance centre that houses Compagnie ODD and Series Dance 10. You’ll find them on the second floor of Arts Court, offering performances, residencies, masterclasses, and affordable studio space rental. The space is lovely with soaring high ceilings, intricate moldings and large windows that allow for an abundance of natural light.
Yvonne Coutts, Artistic Director, and Lana Morton, Associate Director are inspired by a clientele that is engaged and curious about experiencing new dance worlds. This fuels their passion to support artists of all generations and styles, both national and international, bringing audiences together with artists to connect and interact.
Lana shares a funny moment with us … “ODD hosted a Danish company who collaborated with scientists. The installation included thousands of live mealworms – it was brilliant. There were some curious moments observing audience members interact with the performance.”
The highlight for SERIES DANCE 10 this month was #32 featuring Toronto’s BoucharDanse November 22-24 in the ODD Box at Arts Court. Coming up: a NAC co-presentation of Montreal dancer Lara Kramer in February 2019 also in ODD Box; and Dorsale Danse in June at La Nouvelle Scène. Compagnie ODD has creations underway by award winning choreographer Tedd Robinson as well as ODD Artistic Director Yvonne Coutts, and creation residencies back to back with Simon Renaud, Montreal and Jocelyn Todd, London.
Simply put, there is a lot going on at ODD!
