This beginner workshop showed us how to connect our businesses to customer searches on Google and how to optimize websites and digital presence for Google, without costing money.

Small Business Websites 101 – There is a great deal to consider when you’re building a new website or redesigning an existing one. This beginner workshop covered everything it all, from choosing and registering a domain name, to building the website itself, to making sure it’s secure.

Maximizing Your Online Advertising & Digital Marketing Budget – You don’t need a big budget to get noticed on the web – you just need creativity! Savvy businesses are using bootstrap digit marketing to amplify their message online. In this hands-on workshop, we learned the tricks and tools needed to market our businesses effectively on a shoestring budget.

Social Media for Small Business – The first of the Digital Mainstreet Rideau Talks series provided the basics of today’s popular social media channels—including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest—and helped attendees decide which are the best fit. It also included tips on developing a social media plan that will drive business results without a big investment of time and energy.

Up Your Digital Game – Kimberly McCarthy-Kearney, DRBIAs Member Services & Promotions Manager, walked attendees through the recently expanded Digital Main Street Initiative and how its free resources can help increase/improve online presence. It also included details of a series of four free #RideauTalks workshops: Social Media for Small Business; followed by Maximizing Your Online Advertising & Digital Marketing Budget; Small Business Websites 101; and Search Engine Optimization Fundamentals.

Emergency Preparedness Workshop: Presenters will outline best planning for business interruptions, emergencies, and disasters, as they are a crucial aspect of running a business, but often overlooked. This informative and essential session will help you and your employees respond and stay safe during an emergency. Takeaways include:

  • Checklist of supplies your business should include in an Emergency Kit
  • Communications Guidelines to ensure all goes according to plan
  • How to differentiate between Shelter in Place, Lock Down, and Secure Facility conditions and react appropriately for each
  • And a bonus emergency kit checklist for you and your family, to keep your loved ones safe at home
